1128 used to have a name, a job, a fiancé…a life. She used to have plans and dreams and aspirations. Most of all, she used to have freedom. But one sunny day in July that all changed—Population control came to America and soon the home of the brave was only the land of the free for some. 1128 became a non-citizen, a virtual slave, overnight.
Surrounded by vindictive guards, possible allies, and a wealthy citizen owner, 1128 navigates her perilous new life. Throughout her journey she struggles to survive, but always keeps an eye toward escape. If liberty is possible, she is determined to find it.

What an interesting concept for a story! While I don't believe (or I hope I'm right to not believe) that population control would ever come to fruition in the US, she makes it believable in this book. If our country took the steps she outlines here, one could easily see us getting to that point, and on that level, the story has a scary and creepy realism to it.
On another level, the story has a way of infuriating you. The value of a human life is seriously degraded for those affected by population control, and while your heart breaks and cringes at every misfortune the non-citizens face, it's knowing that there are people out there today that hold such a low value for life that they could actually put something like this story into play that gets under your skin.
As all good stories do, they force you right in the middle of the character's lives, making you feel everything they experience. You try to imagine yourself in their situation, and you think about it long after you read the last page. This book does just that.
Pick it up and read it. You won't be disappointed.

NonCitizen edition by Christine Beltran Anna Head Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
For being this author's first novel, she is quite a writer. The story line keeps you on the edge of your seat and you experience several kinds of emotions with the lives of these characters.
This book kept my attention to the very end. Good read on an all-too-possible scenario.
This book was riveting from start to finish. The story was both entertaining and thought provoking. I had a hard time putting it down and would highly recommend this book to anyone. I hope to see more from this author in the future.
Amazing book Christine! Once I started I couldn't put it down, even sneaking in a page or two during work! This is a terrific book for someone who enjoys a quick read that holds your attention throughout the story. Can't wait til I get word that you've published another one! Great job...keep up the good work.

Kept me reading even when I thought it would never end. Very interesting subject. Makes you understand that we're possibly headed down this road as a nation, but pray it never happens.
Although this is not a genre that I would normally read I purchased this book for one reason and one reason alone...someone who taught me so much and was such an important role in my teenage years wrote it. At first I was slightly shocked at the events unfolding before my eyes and then could not get enough of learning about the non-citizens and their fates. The main character not only drew me in, but seemed so real at points I couldn't help but need to know more. I was caught up in every page of the book anxiously awaiting the time where I could read more once my baby finally took a nap or went to bed. You will feel for these characters and be both amazed and mystified over what human beings can endure or make others endure. As chapters unfolded one doesn't know whether to cheer, be shocked, cry, or scream in anger over what they learn. At the end I just wanted to know more and live with our characters longer. You will be left with the lesson of making sure you are informed and speaking up rather then sitting like a drone letting life happen to you, or letting others make decisions for you. If a sequel is coming I would love to know more.
For you who love conspiracy theories and just know that the Gov't is going to get us eventually, you'll love this book. I'm only a kind-of Conspiracy guy and I found it delivered all kinds of emotional rides for me--some to dark, dark places and some with great light and humor. You'll appreciate the humor breaks and I appreciated the non-vulgarity of the writer, using real words to communicate depth and feeling. I look forward to her next book.
